Little Socks

I had some yarn leftover after finishing my Green Socks. There was not enough to do an adult pair of socks, so I decided to make a pair for an infant. They were really quick to do, and I had fun making them, the pattern was interesting and had great results.

Green Gator Socks:

Yarn:  Lion Brand Sock-Ease in Snow Cone

Needle Size: Size 5 (3.75mm) DPNs

After finishing the first sock, and about half way through the second, I found an errata page with corrections to this pattern.  I had already figured out that the instructions for binding off were wrong, but I did the cable pattern as was found in the book (i.e not the correct instructions). Another change that I made, was that I turned the socks inside out before doing the three-needle bind-off, so the seam is on the inside of the sock. This turns the toe into a more rounded one instead of being square. I am not going to be adding eyes to these socks, they look good without them!

Beautiful Shawl

For my secret santa gift exchange at Christmas, I received yarn from my secret santa! I got 2 balls of sock yarn that I used to make my Rose Rib Pink Socks, and a ball of Regia Lace. The ball band had a beautiful picture of a lace shawl and I wanted to make it right away. Then I downloaded the pattern and my jaw dropped. I've done plenty of lace knitting, but nothing like this. I haven't used a lot of charts, so this pattern was overwhelming at first, but I read the instructions about 10 times and started knitting... and knitting... and knitting... It took me a long time to get this one done, but it was worth the wait. It is stunning. I could not get a good picture of the completed project, so this picture definitely does not do the shawl justice.

Lace Shawl:

Needle Size: Size 7 (4.5mm)

I only worked until row 78 of the pattern. The shawl was already the size that I liked, and I would not have had enough yarn to finish anyway (if anyone is interested in making this shawl, make sure you have 2 balls of yarn). I would not recommend this pattern to anyone, it seems to have a lot of mistakes in it, and some of the instructions are unclear and hard to understand. I would not do it again, I would try another pattern.

Green Socks Complete

I have now finished making my second pair of toe-up socks. This pair is the 7th project of my Sock Knitting Master Class Challenge. These took me a long time to make (longer then usual anyway). There are a lot of stitches and a lot of pattern, but they are absolutely beautiful in the end. Except when I put them on. They are a tiny bit too big for me in the toe and heel and would have been absolutely humongous on me if I had followed the pattern and done 3 repeats of the pattern in the foot. Instead I did 2 and it's a good thing I did. Even though they are slightly large on me, they still look great!

 The pattern is well written and the charts are very clear and easy to read. They are not my favorite pair that I have made so far, but they are they are at the top of the list.

Finished Mother's Day Socks

I completed the 6th pair of socks in my Sock Knitting Master Class Challenge. I loved making these socks. The pattern was written wonderfully and was easy to follow.  I made them with time to spare for mother's day and I want to keep them for myself... is that bad?

Starting Sock #6

I knit up a pair of socks for my mother-in-law a couple of years ago, and she loves to wear them. So when I showed her my Sock Knitting Master Class book and she said she loved the Asymmetrical Cables socks, I knew I had to make them for her.

Sock Knitting Master Class Challenge Sock #5 Complete!

I have finished my fifth sock in my Sock Knitting Master Class Challenge. I fell in love with these socks as soon as I got them, and when I received yarn as my secret santa present at Christmas, I knew I had to make these. I love knitting lace, and this was a great pattern that knit up quickly.

Rose Rib Pink Socks:

Sock Knitting Master Class Challenge #4 Complete

In my quest to knit up all the projects in Sock Knitting Master Class I have come to the Bulgarian Blooms socks. It took me a while to even get the first one made (I started these socks way back in October), and I wasn't too happy with the results. There is nothing wrong with the pattern - just my knitting. It seems that I am not so great at intarsia knitting and the fabric puckered considerably.  I almost didn't even knit the second sock. I was ready to just leave the one sock and call it a day, but both my boyfriend and mother-in-law loved the sock and convinced me to make the second one. I still don't like them, but I finished them.

The Zoo

My boyfriend and I went to the Toronto zoo a few weeks ago. We had such a great time, and because we went on a day that wasn't too warm, the animals were walking about. My boyfriend took a lot of videos of our visit, but no pictures, so I had to get snapshots of the videos, so they are a little blurry. Here are some of the better pictures that I was able to get (they are still a little blurry, but you get the idea!)

Square #5 finished

I can't believe how fast this project is coming along now. I have just finished making square #5 for the knitalong that began last August. This one took me longer to finish because of the amount of cables involved in making it. Usually, I am a fast knitter, but cables slow me down considerably. I am getting better at them the more squares that I do, but I don't think I will be doing any cable patterns for a while after these squares are done.

Boyfriend Blanket - Square #5 (December):

Yarn: Phentex Worsted in Blue

Needles: Size 7

There were only two mistakes in this pattern that I could see. First, it seems like the directions for the cable in Chart C is missing. I slipped 3 sts onto the cable needle, held in front. K3 then K3 from cn. Also, In the stitch patterns, there are two directions for 4/1PRC. I took the second one (with the directions to sl next 4 sts onto cn, hold in front, p1, k4 from cn) as the directions for 4/1lrc.
